Bleeding Gums
You may have periodontal disease if your gums bleed when you brush or floss your teeth. Periodontitis is a gum infection that can damage the gums and even cause tooth loss in the most severe cases. The condition develops from the infection of gum tissue. Plaque can inflame the gums, which causes them to bleed easily. If you want more information on how we diagnose and treat bleeding gums, please see Bleeding gums.
As the infection progresses, pockets form between teeth, loosening them or causing them to fall out. Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults and may also be to blame for other dental problems that impact the teeth and gums. Consider periodontal therapy in our dentist office in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.
Crooked Teeth
Do you want to straighten your crooked teeth? Straightening teeth not only improves the appearance of your smile but can also stop dental problems from developing. Crooked teeth may increase the risk of tooth decay, gum disease, jaw and bite disorders, gum recession, headaches, worn teeth, and broken teeth. Clear braces, tooth bonding, and porcelain veneers can be used to straighten crooked teeth for a more balanced and healthy smile.
Headaches
If you suffer from chronic headaches, you may have a TMJ disorder. Temporomandibular joint disorders cause pain in the jaw joint and muscles. We treat TMJ disorders with oral appliances, which are custom-made mouthguards that keep teeth from grinding together.
You wear them at night to protect your teeth from further wear and tear. Dr. Patel may recommend cosmetic treatment if you have excessive tooth damage or wear and tear from grinding your teeth due to a TMJ disorder. Tooth bonding or dental crowns can be used to repair damage and improve the aesthetics of your smile. Restorative treatments such as dental implants are also useful for severe cases of TMJ.
Missing Teeth
Missing teeth can be replaced with dental implants, dental bridges, dentures, and partials. We replace single missing teeth or whole arches of teeth utilizing dental implants. The dentist inserts a titanium post into the jawbone. After a period of 3 to 6 months, we add a permanent abutment and dental crown for a permanent restoration.
Dental bridges can replace one or more teeth. This option can be removable or secured in place with dental implants. Dental bridges can also utilize surrounding natural teeth to secure and replace consecutive missing teeth. We replace multiple teeth or the upper and lower arches of teeth with dentures or partial dentures. Like dental bridges, dentures can be removable or secured by dental implants. Dr. Patel also offers all-on-four dental implants to secure dentures.
Bad Breath
Bad breath, or halitosis, is often the result of bacteria buildup in the mouth, which can result from poor dental hygiene, dry mouth, or certain foods. Regular brushing, flossing, and mouthwash can reduce bacteria and manage bad breath. If these home remedies don’t resolve the issue, Dr. Patel can provide you with an evaluation and treatment.
