Sedation dentistry allows even the patients with the worst anxiety to get the dental care they need.
We offer multiple forms of sedation at our office. Nitrous oxide, better known as laughing gas, takes effect and dissipates quickly. You’re able to drive yourself to and from your dental appointment. Oral conscious sedation is a prescribed pill you take before coming into the office. It’s a heavier form of sedation, and someone will have to drive you to and from your appointment.
With both of these options, you’ll be relaxed and may not remember portions of the procedure. However, they don’t put you to sleep. In certain cases, heavier sedation is needed. We’ll work with a local anesthesiologist for IV sedation. IV sedation puts you to “sleep,” and you won’t be aware of the procedure or your surroundings.
People with dental fear aren’t the only ones that benefit from sedation. Patients that have movement disorders have a hard time getting proper care safely. Involuntary movements make it difficult with sharp dental tools. Patients with severe gag reflexes have difficulty, causing discomfort for both the patient and the dentist. Sedation relaxes these bodily impulses. We also recommend sedation for more invasive procedures or if you’re getting multiple procedures done in one day.
